Mrs. 1500 here.
Not all blogs I read are finance-related specifically, but they can help improve your financial situation by reading them and using their information. One of my favorite non-PF blogs is called Herb on Herbs. This is a cooking/food blog written by Herb, Mrs. Herb and Sister Spice, and I love almost all of their recipes. (I say almost all, because they use mushrooms in a few recipes, a “food” I intensely dislike.)
But Mrs. 1500, how can reading a cooking blog help my finances? Two words: menu planning. By planning your menu, you are prepared for the week/month/year (if you are ambitious) and have all the ingredients on hand to make meals at home, saving yourself the hassle of deciding what to eat at the last minute, and keeping you from ‘just going out to dinner’.
But menu planning can be boring and repeating the same 5 or 10 dishes every week will make your family soon revolt. Enter Herb on Herbs, with their great recipes, new takes on old favorites, or new ideas you hadn’t thought of before.

Herb on Herbs takes amazing pictures of the finished product, along with step by step pictures so you can compare your preparation to theirs. Really helpful instructions accompany the pictures, so you are almost guaranteed to not make a mistake.
Need something for dinner tonight? Hop on over to HerbonHerbs.com and find some amazing dish to feed your hungry masses. Already have dinner planned? Herb on Herbs can help you out with dessert. (Oh my goodness, they have such amazing desserts! Try Butterscotch Pie with Meringue.

Thanks for sharing, 1500s! Always love those cooking blogs. 🙂

Thanks for posting! I enjoy being introduced to new cooking blogs — especially when said blogs have Pinterest accounts 🙂
I may have to make that Butterscotch Pie for the next BBQ I attend!
Good food is also a favorite of mine!

This is very timely! I’m hitting menu burnout because I keep cooking the same things over and over again. Time to break my food rut, I think.

Thanks for sharing, I’ll go check it out. I follow many food blogs and enjoy them. I’ve integrated food with CBB because food IS a part of the budget. My blog revolves around everything inside of a budget and recipe blogs like you mention have all sorts of tips, tricks, budget friendly meals etc. I hope to bring the best of 2 worlds to CBB for that reason. Thanks for sharing this blog… I’m off to have look now!

By making food at home and learning to cook different kinds well, you are more likely to continue to eat at home and save money by not going out. This is something that I feel directly links to personal finance. If it is something you can do to save yourself money and free up cash to put towards your financial goals then it is going to help a lot. Thank you for sharing another site for me to check out and hopefully find some new recipes.

I totally agree – cooking in is one of those “habits” that just compounds over time 🙂

Nice. I was raised on box mixes and am slowly trying to cook more from scratch, but tend to gravitate more toward vegan or vegetarian health food blogs. Though I do cook with meat sometimes for Mr. PoP, I’m always hesitant to experiment with it since I can’t taste it as I go along to see if it isn’t awful.

I need to work on menu planning. I recently quit eating out at lunch for work and have been trying to cook more food at home. If I read food blogs we might be able to stray away from the pb&j sandwiches and frozen dinners and add some much needed variety into our meals.

Hi Mrs. 1500,
That pie looks decadent and worth a good 10 extra lbs. Shoot, I’ll have to walk an extra mile just looking at it! I agree that it’s good to follow other bloggers who post content that help with improving money habits. Here are a few I love: MissMinimalist.com, BeMoreWithLess.com, AndreaDekker.com (on simple living), and SmartPassiveIncome.com.
Happy Memorial Day,
Ree
