10 Questions with The Butler Journal

June 27, 2015 by Mr. 1500 Days 2 Comments

Today is the 11th edition of our new periodic guest post series called 10 Questions. We have a list of 17 NEW questions we pose to fellow financial bloggers, and they are free to pick and choose 10 or answer all of them. Let us know if you would like to be featured in a future edition of 10 Questions. (If you have already answered the first set of 10 questions, please feel free to answer these new ones.)

This week’s 10 Questions are answered by Jason from The Butler Journal, where he blogs about his debt reduction journey. He graduated in 2008 with $71,000 in debt, and decided that just wasn’t OK. He wants to help educate people about college information such as financial aid and study tips.

Tell me about your blog and why it’s great
My blog is titled TheButlerJournal.com. I talk to people about debt, college information and travel. I think it’s great because I show people that they can make things happen in life. I also want to motivate people and show them that they can get out of debt. I document my journey monthly on the site.  Below are some of my favorite posts:

What goals do you have for your blog, short and long term?
Short term: I want to continue to provide information that people can use when it comes to debt and travel. Long term: I plan for my blog to continue to grow. I also want it to help me become location independent when it comes to working.

If blogging isn’t your full time gig, what is?
I am a financial aid counselor.

When you are 90 and look back on your life, what do you hope you have accomplished?
I hope that I have accomplished everything on my bucket list. I also hope that I will be able to pass a business to my grandchildren.

What post are you most proud of and why?
I have a couple posts that I’m proud of. One of them is 5 Habits that are keeping you from success. That post received a lot of comments and support on and offline. People agreed with the habits.

How do you handle people with different views on money, ie spendy people?
I let them do their own thing. I also don’t let them pressure me into any unwanted spending.

We notice a lot of frugal people are into board games – what is your favorite?
Scrabble

What is the best thing you’re read lately?
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

What do you do for exercise?
I work out in my neighborhood gym. I also run at the park.

What is your favorite US City to visit?
