10 Questions with Ridinkulous

August 15, 2015 by Mr. 1500 Days 17 Comments

Today is the 16th edition of our new periodic guest post series called 10 Questions. We have a list of 17 NEW questions we pose to fellow financial bloggers, and they are free to pick and choose 10 or answer all of them. Let us know if you would like to be featured in a future edition of 10 Questions. (If you have already answered the first set of 10 questions, please feel free to answer these new ones.)

Today’s 10 questions are being answered by Norm from Ridinkulous. Or Gygax. I’m not really sure where this was supposed to go. I clicked over to his site to check him out and read the best review of The Hottest Cell Phone You Need to Own RIGHT NOW!!! Without further ado, here is Norm. Or Gygax. Or whatever.

Tell us about your blog

Tell me about your blog and why it’s great.
My Earth name is Gygax, but throughout the universe I am known by a name unpronounceable by your human vocal cords. The imperial title given to me is The Malevolent One and I control a vast network of blogs, the subject today being the one that is known as Ridinkulous. My army of unpaid bloggers do my bidding. This includes many blogs you may know and love. Soon the blogs under my control shall be the only blogs known to the world.  All other blogs will be destroyed! If these bloggers do not heed my call and surrender to become my minions, they shall be skewered alive, writhing in agony! (This includes you, Mr. 1500, and all of your ilk)  Mankind’s memory will be erased and it shall appear that the Gygax Network contains every blog that has ever existed. Indeed Ridinkulous will appear to be the only conversationally-written personal finance blog that has ever been created!

Tell me how you’re going to change the world with your blog (dream big or don’t dream at all!).
This blog is going to change the world by destroying every other blog in existence.  There shall be nothing remaining on the Earth and all will be mine!

What goals do you have for your blog, short and long term?
I want to lay waste to the entire landscape.  It is my most dear wish to consume the Earth and all of its inhabitants, draw them into my belly until they become one with the darkness.

What post are you most proud of and why?
Ranking The Retirement Accounts
Norm and Marge say that this analysis helped them to decide where to put their money for maximum tax and fee advantages.

Do you enjoy writing?
I hate writing. I despise all words. They are pitiful and an inadequate form of communication. This is why I force my Enslaved do the writing. I prefer to communicate through violence.

Tell us about you

1500 Days is about early retirement. Do you have early retirement dreams? At what age do you think you will retire?
Norm and Marge, my enslaved bloggers, will never retire. At some point in their fake storyline, they shall appear to retire, but it is a story created for your edification. In truth, they shall work for the next one thousand years until their corpses become no more than dust to be snorted into the nose of Megna, the Soul Eater.

When you are 90 and look back on your life, what do you hope you have accomplished?
I have passed the age of 90, for I am over 100,000 years old in your Earth years. I do not hope for anything in the future, for the future has already been written. There is no hope, because there is no future.  During the 1,000 Year Information War, my armies shall cast my opponents into the shadows, reigning triumphant and controlling all information between this realm and the next!

Money, money, money

What is the best money management or investment tool you have come across?
The whip, and the chain.  Those whom I have enslaved respond well to the whip. If they do not continue work harder, they get the chain and are suspended from the ceiling in my palace.  Some for days, some for eternity. The bodies of insubordinate bloggers hang around me in a macabre arrangement like so many chandeliers.

Did your parents teach you about money as a kid? How so?
I was brought into existence by Drada the Merciless God of the Night and Hverda the Enslaver of the Damned. They were my parents by blood, but not by heart! They rejected me and threw my body into the River of Fire. I was subsequently raised by the 12-headed wolf beast Ulan. Ulan is my one true friend in the world. From afar, Drada and Hverda taught me how to inflict suffering on the universe. I watched as they conquered one world after another. I hid in wait in the Great Forest before I took my revenge, and beheaded those evildoers in their bedchamber! They paid with their lives for casting a babe into the river! Their lands were now mine, and I rode them with Ulan, demonstrating a remorseless hand, taking what was due to me and leaving desolation in my wake.

Random silliness

What is your favorite style of beer – and what is your favorite beer in that style?
No beer. I make a tea out of rust, anthrax, and chamomile suspended in a sack of human skin.

We notice a lot of frugal people are into board games – what is your favorite?
I use human pawns in a life size deadly game of chess in my grand ballroom. Weekly I challenge Murdoch, Beholder of Newspapers, to a game. My bloggers do battle with his journalists to the death, opponents eviscerating each other with every move, until the entire hall is covered in blood.

Make sure to visit Norm/Gygax over on his blog.

Thanks for interviewing our corporate overlord, Mr. 1,500! He is a hard taskmaster, as you can probably imagine. But writing for him has been nothing short of a joy! *nervous laugh*

Thanks Norm! I don’t think anyone is going to top you for the Creativity Award! Also, do you have any idea where I can pick up a sweet Nokia 2600?

Also, I checked out Chvrhes and I agree with your assessment; like Garbage, only happier. Pretty good though. Thanks for the recommendation.

A couple nights ago when Mrs. 1500 was writing this up, I heard her giggling like a crazy person. So I said, “What the hell is wrong with you?” She replied, “It’s this guy’s blog! It’s hilarious!” She was reading the Nokia 2600 post and it is indeed, hilarious!

So, I encourage you to give Norm a chance. Some of his stuff is out there, but I’d rather read that than “5 Ways to Save at the Grocery Store” for the millionth time.

I agree. Gygax does go too far.. but you didn’t hear that from me. He’s been walking around with a scepter with a human skull on top of it! It’s like, geez, we already know you’re the boss. Stop shoving it in our faces.

Wow, that was by far the weirdest one of these interviews you have ever done. I know it was all a joke but it was still just plain strange. Are you sure that guy doesn’t need a psychiatrist?

I read the Nokia 2600 post and it certainly is funny in its own way. I think I actually had one of those phones back in the day.

Much like Xenu, Gygax does not believe in psychiatrists, so I doubt they are covered by our health plan.

I applaud Mr. 1500 for promoting diversity in the Personal Finance community and Norm for the creativity.
This new money management tool ‘whip and chains’ sounds effective. I wonder if maybe it could be a complement to Personal Capital, ha!

It certainly has been effective so far. We’ve been publishing consistently for almost a year now. After all, we don’t want to end up with our guts strewn all over the place!

Gyrax is quite hilarious and out of this world. How can he say such things? He is funny anyway and I liked the interview. I hope he seeks medication soon.
