Get Comfortable Talking About Money

January 1, 2017 by Mrs. 1500 38 Comments

Hi there, Mrs. 1500 today. Let's talk about money. We have been blogging for exactly 4 years today. Mostly Mr. 1500, but I pop in from time to time to share my views or ask a question. Our life has changed substantially in those 4 years. We downsized our house, joined the Double Comma Club, fell out of the Double Comma Club, bounced in and out of it for a while - and will … [Read more...] about Get Comfortable Talking About Money

Ladies, Take Care of Yourselves and Get a Mammogram

October 27, 2015 by Mr. 1500 Days 37 Comments

Hi there, Mrs. 1500 back again for the second day in a row.So a few weeks back, I wrote about feeling financially guilty because I bought 4 new bras. You ladies responded that $30 a bra isn't excessive - in fact quite the opposite. I appreciated your responses, and am trying to get over my guilt. I even got rid of those old bras that didn't fit. Thank you.Now let's talk … [Read more...] about Ladies, Take Care of Yourselves and Get a Mammogram

Hi there, Mrs. 1500 today, asking about what inspires you.But first, like always, we're going to take a trip in the WABAC Machine and travel back to last Monday, where we asked How do you balance work and life?Ironically, a few hours after this post was published, we got notification that Mr. 1500's modified work schedule was approved for his next contract year, which … [Read more...] about Ask the Readers: What Inspires You?

October 5, 2015 by Mr. 1500 Days 77 Comments

Hi there, Mrs. 1500 today.Well, I will join you after Mr. 1500 recaps last week...So last week, I thought my boss had discovered my plans to retire early, so I straight up asked in the post:Well, my boss didn't mention it. She is outspoken, so I think she would have if she had seen the post. I am relieved:Retiring in your 40s is a very odd concept to most and … [Read more...] about Ask the Readers (Contest Edition): What have you been reading?

April 20, 2015 by Mr. 1500 Days 59 Comments

Hi there, Mrs. 1500 finally back at the helm, after a couple of weeks off.I had an interesting conversation with a neighbor, who thinks she lives below her means. What does that really mean? But first, let's go back to last week's question, where Mr. 1500 asked how you would invest $275,000.Chris from Flipping a Dollar, Fervent Finance, Reader Danny, BackNColo, The … [Read more...] about Ask the Readers: What does living below your means really mean?

Freedom!

My goal was to build a portfolio of $1,000,000 by February of 2017; 1500 days from the birth of this blog (January 1, 2013). And hey look, I’ve since retired!

Investments only (primary home excluded)
1/1/13 (The Start): $586,043
1/1/14 (1 Yr Later): $869,635
1/1/15 (2 Yrs Later): $987,351
1/1/16 (3 Yrs Later): $1,057,961
1/1/17 (4 Yrs Later): $1,257,128
1/1/18 (5 Yrs Later): $1,527,701
1/1/19 (6 Yrs Later): $1,549,440
1/1/20 (7 Yrs Later): $2,035,040*
1/1/21 (8 Yrs Later): $3,379,746**
1/1/22 (9 Yrs Later): $4,762,642
1/1/23 (10 Yrs Later): $3,112,821

2023: Investments only
1/1: $3,112,821

Overall
2023 investment gains: $0
Investment gains since 1/1/2013: $2,526,778
Net worth***: $3,342,821

* The big jump between 2019 and 2020 was partly because we bought another home, but kept the previous (much more expensive) one as a rental. We have since sold it.

** Tesla.

*** Includes our primary home equity in addition to our investment portfolio.

Finally, we still have about $290,000 in mortgage debt (which I love!). No regrets about the debts!
