If I had to marry a tool, it would be Tessa the Tile Saw

December 16, 2014 by Mr. 1500 Days 27 Comments

I'll get right to the point, I love Tessa the Tile Saw because of the huge amount of money she has saved me installing almost 2,000 square feet of tile. If I had paid for all of this tile work, the labor would have run about $20,000 over the course of our last 5 remodels*.I bought mighty little Tessa at Home Depot about 10 years ago for the price of about $100. At the time, … [Read more...] about If I had to marry a tool, it would be Tessa the Tile Saw

Thursday Rant: Ain’t got time for a rant

October 30, 2014 by Mr. 1500 Days 18 Comments

I had something almost worked up for today, but it didn't feel quite right. We have been working our butts off on the house, so there is little time for much else lately. It is all our fault though.A couple months ago, we successfully convinced all of our relatives to come to our house for the holidays. Score! Oh wait, there isn't flooring or doors in half of the rooms … [Read more...] about Thursday Rant: Ain’t got time for a rant

(G)utter Failure

June 17, 2014 by Mr. 1500 Days 40 Comments

Hi there, Mrs. 1500 today to talk about knowing your limitations. As you may have gathered, Mr. 1500 is a Do-it-himselfer. He hires very little out, because he believes he can do it all by himself and usually better. This is great, when he can do it, which is most of the time. However, even he finds it just is better to hire some jobs out.We recently added a second … [Read more...] about (G)utter Failure

Thursday Anti-Rant: I Passed!!!!

March 13, 2014 by Mr. 1500 Days 21 Comments

Sorry everyone, I'm just way too happy now to post anything even remotely negative. Instead, allow me to regale you with home improvement tales.Holy cow, I just passed my plumbing inspection and I couldn't be happier. Besides replacing a toilet and some very basic repairs, I had never really plumbed anything before. Now, on the first try, with the toughest inspector in … [Read more...] about Thursday Anti-Rant: I Passed!!!!

Uglyhouse Unglues our Sanity just a Bit

September 10, 2013 by Mr. 1500 Days 39 Comments

We are doing all kinds of crazy projects to the home we recently bought. I call it Uglyhouse because it was designed by Frank Lloyd Wrong. The renovations on Uglyhouse have temporarily turned our lives upside down. I'm not sure if things have ever been so chaotic. We spent Saturday tearing off part of the roof and loading a 20 yard dumpster to capacity. My body is sore. My … [Read more...] about Uglyhouse Unglues our Sanity just a Bit

Overall
Gains since 1/1/2013: $3,882,579
Net worth***: $4,698,622

* The big jump between 2019 and 2020 was partly because we bought another home, but kept the previous (much more expensive) one as a rental. We have since sold it.

** Tesla.

*** Includes our primary home equity in addition to our investment portfolio.

Finally, we still have about $290,000 in mortgage debt (which I love!). No regrets about the debts!
