2020: Goals And Funk Holes

January 5, 2020 by Mr. 1500 Days 23 Comments

I like goals. They help me plan my life. They give me direction and purpose. Without goals, I'd feel like a ship without a keel; directionless and out of control.I also like rhymes and playing with words. When writing a post, I try to come up with a clever title. Sometimes I rhyme, but when I can't come up with anything, I use a site like Rhyme Zone. I used Rhyme Zone for … [Read more...] about 2020: Goals And Funk Holes

Here are the winners per Dr. Haiku:Grand prize (Wahl Elite Pro): HeatherHMy spouse pays 30For each head and beard … [Read more...] about Ask The Readers: Resolution Solutions?

Resolution Dilution?

March 1, 2019 by Mr. 1500 Days 15 Comments

I came up with 15 resolutions and to keep myself honest, today I post an update.Resolution Dilution? It's human nature to lose enthusiasm for goals after the initial excitement wears off. However, it's important to persevere. How many great things were accomplished in a month or two? Stick to it and build a habit! One way to keep yourself motivated is to hold yourself … [Read more...] about Resolution Dilution?

15 Resolutions (And Cookie Absolution)

January 14, 2019 by Mr. 1500 Days 29 Comments

I've always disliked New Year's resolutions. What is so special about a new year? You should always be trying to better yourself regardless of what day it is.But, it feels different for me now. Maybe it's because I let some things drop at the end of 2018 and this is a reaction? Dunno. In any case, I'm setting goals for 2019. Brace yourselves.I don’t plan. I’m not a … [Read more...] about 15 Resolutions (And Cookie Absolution)

Goals?

January 8, 2018 by Mr. 1500 Days 63 Comments

Bah! A post about New Year's resolutions! How novel and creative! NOT! But tis' the season, so I'm going to ask about them anyway. Before I do, I want to tell you how I'm approaching it.Resolutions Suck (but...) I've always disliked New Year's resolutions. Why do we need a new year to make a new beginning? Start today, not on 1/1! Try to improve and reinvent yourself … [Read more...] about Goals?

Freedom!

My goal was to build a portfolio of $1,000,000 by February of 2017; 1500 days from the birth of this blog (January 1, 2013). And hey look, I’ve since retired!

Investments only (primary home excluded)
1/1/13 (The Start): $586,043
1/1/14 (1 Yr Later): $869,635
1/1/15 (2 Yrs Later): $987,351
1/1/16 (3 Yrs Later): $1,057,961
1/1/17 (4 Yrs Later): $1,257,128
1/1/18 (5 Yrs Later): $1,527,701
1/1/19 (6 Yrs Later): $1,549,440
1/1/20 (7 Yrs Later): $2,035,040*
1/1/21 (8 Yrs Later): $3,379,746**
1/1/22 (9 Yrs Later): $4,762,642
1/1/23 (10 Yrs Later): $3,112,821

2023: Investments only
1/1: $3,112,821

Overall
2023 investment gains: $0
Investment gains since 1/1/2013: $2,526,778
Net worth***: $3,342,821

* The big jump between 2019 and 2020 was partly because we bought another home, but kept the previous (much more expensive) one as a rental. We have since sold it.

** Tesla.

*** Includes our primary home equity in addition to our investment portfolio.

Finally, we still have about $290,000 in mortgage debt (which I love!). No regrets about the debts!
