Ask the Readers: Favorite Places on Earth?

June 26, 2017 by Mr. 1500 Days 89 Comments

Last Friday, I had a magical experience. I had told the girls on Thursday evening that I'd be taking them to Rocky Mountain National Park. I looked outside on Friday morning and was annoyed by the heavy clouds. The girls would be upset if I told them that the trip was off, so I pushed ahead. I hoped that the clouds would break so we could see the park.I became more annoyed … [Read more...] about Ask the Readers: Favorite Places on Earth?

Ask the Readers: Where are You going this Year?

March 28, 2016 by Mr. 1500 Days 77 Comments

I love travel! More on that in a moment. First, I have to get to last week's answers. The dishwasher and I were not getting along. It broke and I thought that the fix would be simple, and it was. Unfortunately, it took me hours and hours to realize it.The dishwasher only set me back $50 in the first place, so I wondered if all the time time and profanity was worth … [Read more...] about Ask the Readers: Where are You going this Year?

10 Questions with Go Curry Cracker!

April 28, 2015 by Mr. 1500 Days 32 Comments

Today's post is technically a 10 Questions. I usually publish these on Saturdays, but today I make an exception. Normal life is a compromise. We work for 40 or 50 years. When our time finally frees up, our bodies aren't what they used to be. What fun is having all of the time in the world and not being able to completely enjoy it?One of the aspects of a normal job that I … [Read more...] about 10 Questions with Go Curry Cracker!

Blogs I Dig: Richmond Savers

September 13, 2014 by Mr. 1500 Days 3 Comments

Hi there, Mrs. 1500 today. We have been collecting Airline Rewards points for years, and been able to use them on our own with relative ease. But then the rules changed, and we moved from the O'Hare Airport area, to the Denver Airport region. What we didn't know, was that our airline mile redemption ability was about to change, too.Over the course of our time in … [Read more...] about Blogs I Dig: Richmond Savers

Freedom!

My goal was to build a portfolio of $1,000,000 by February of 2017; 1500 days from the birth of this blog (January 1, 2013). And hey look, I’ve since retired!

Investments only (primary home excluded)
1/1/13 (The Start): $586,043
1/1/14 (1 Yr Later): $869,635
1/1/15 (2 Yrs Later): $987,351
1/1/16 (3 Yrs Later): $1,057,961
1/1/17 (4 Yrs Later): $1,257,128
1/1/18 (5 Yrs Later): $1,527,701
1/1/19 (6 Yrs Later): $1,549,440
1/1/20 (7 Yrs Later): $2,035,040*
1/1/21 (8 Yrs Later): $3,379,746**
1/1/22 (9 Yrs Later): $4,762,642
1/1/23 (10 Yrs Later): $3,112,821

2023: Investments only
1/1: $3,112,821
2/1: $3,582,368

Overall
2023 investment gains: $469,547
Investment gains since 1/1/2013: $2,996,325
Net worth***: $3,812,368

* The big jump between 2019 and 2020 was partly because we bought another home, but kept the previous (much more expensive) one as a rental. We have since sold it.

** Tesla.

*** Includes our primary home equity in addition to our investment portfolio.

Finally, we still have about $290,000 in mortgage debt (which I love!). No regrets about the debts!
