I’m old and jaded, so it’s not often that I come by a podcast or blog that teaches me something. The All The Hacks podcast does just this though. Host Chris Hutchins is a wealth of knowledge about a diverse array of subjects including:
- travel hacking
- happiness
- credit cards
- insurance
- cooking
- money
On top of all of that, Chris is a good human. I’ve had a chance to talk to him at several personal finance events and he’s the type of person that I wish lived in my ‘hood.
Doug and I interviewed Chris on Mile High FI. We talked about:
- Die With Zero
- Misconceptions about life hacks
- The All The Hacks community
- When Chris’ couch went south

California, FinCon, NYC And More Funtrotting
One of the great joys of modern life is cheap airfare. Combine that with having friends all over the world and you have a recipe for fun times. Funtrotting? I just made that up.
October
Camp FI Southwest: I’ll be at Camp FI Southwest in October. I love Southern California and even rented a Corvette (!) for the occasion, so I’m really looking forward to this. If you’re interested in attending this Camp FI or any others, enter Jensen at checkout to save 10%. Note: I make no money from this. Stephen (Camp FI Organizer) is just a nice guy and gave me a discount code to share.
Besides Camp FI, I look forward to hanging out with Mr. Fiology, David Baughier in lovely San Diego.
FinCon: Doug and I are going will be at FinCon in New Orleans. We’re hosting a panel presentation on podcasting with Andrew Giancola (Personal Finance Podcast), Paula Pant (Afford Anything), and wife Mindy (BiggerPockets Money). Stop by and say Hi! if you’ll be at the conference.
November
NYC: Mindy and I offered each of our girls a trip that they get to plan. Our younger daughter chose NYC. We look forward to seeing some shows, walking around Central Park, and eating some great food.
December
Las Vegas: Have you heard of the crazy new Sphere concert venue? Mindy and I are going to check out U2 there. We’ll also hike Red Rock Canyon.
Perhaps I’ll see you around LA or New Orleans or ????
Fancy concerts? NYC shows? Corvettes? Have I become Fat FIRE? I don’t think so. My daily life is pretty cheap, but is sprinkled with random, infrequent $1,000 experiences.
Life is good.
More 1500 Days!!!

I took my teenage granddaughters to NYC in June. Our favorite food was Los Tacos #1. Best. Tacos. Ever!! We took an evening harbor cruise which was a lot of fun too. Loved everything we did!
We won’t be far from there from either of those things! Thanks you for the recommendations!
I love the idea of letting the kids each plan a trip. I’ll put that in my back pocket for when my kids are older. Now I just need to retire by then!!
Yep! Lots of fun for them!
Nice to see Spendosaurus and Frugalsaurus not seen them so much lately on the blog, hope you can borrow a few phones at camp fi and fincon to spread the dinosaur love around again!!
Ha, the dinosaurs have been unhappy lately with their lack of blog exposure. They have oversized egos which is probably pretty common in the dinosaur world.
I saw a picture the other day of inside the Sphere. It looks incredible. If there were a band to see in the Sphere it would be U2. Not sure of U2 minus Larry but I’m jealous nonetheless.
