Camp FI Rocky Mountain

June 9, 2021 by Mr. 1500 Days 2 Comments

Just a quick note that Camp FI Rocky Mountain takes place July 4th weekend in Colorado Springs. I’ll be speaking along with Lynn Frair, Diania Merriam, and Mr. Waffles on Wednesday.

If you think these events are just a bunch of money nerds debating whether mutual funds are better than ETFs, you’ve got it mostly wrong. Every Camp FI I’ve been to has been filled with amazing people eager to share knowledge and have fun. Because we’re all moving out of the COVID bubble, I expect that this one will be one of the best.

If you’d to know more about what these are like, here’s my write-up of the last one I attended.

A tender moment from Camp FI Rocky Mountain 2019.

Get your ticket here.

See you there?

I have to admit it… meeting and connecting with like-minded people across the country (and world) is one of the main reasons I started blogging about our journey to financial independence. I’m an introvert, so it seemed like the safest way.

That said, your newsletter today has convinced me that this is a group of people I could definitely hang with. I’m looking forward to attending a Camp FI event in the future (hopefully next year), and making some new friends to share a beer with or visit in our future travels.

Awesome! Maybe we’ll meet at that future event?

Freedom!

My goal was to build a portfolio of $1,000,000 by February of 2017; 1500 days from the birth of this blog (January 1, 2013). And hey look, I’ve since retired!

Investments only (primary home excluded)
1/1/13 (The Start): $586,043
1/1/14 (1 Yr Later): $869,635
1/1/15 (2 Yrs Later): $987,351
1/1/16 (3 Yrs Later): $1,057,961
1/1/17 (4 Yrs Later): $1,257,128
1/1/18 (5 Yrs Later): $1,527,701
1/1/19 (6 Yrs Later): $1,549,440
1/1/20 (7 Yrs Later): $2,035,040*
1/1/21 (8 Yrs Later): $3,379,746**
1/1/22 (9 Yrs Later): $4,762,642
1/1/23 (10 Yrs Later): $3,112,821
1/1/24 (11 Yrs Later): $4,562,750
1/1/25 (12 Yrs Later): $6,060,794

2025: Investments only
1/1: $6,060,794
2/1: $6,147,861
3/1: $5,729,518
4/1: $5,358,309
5/1: $5,444,482
6/1: $5,830,567
7/1: $5,904,562
8/1: $6,311,598
9/1: $6,469,507
10/1: $6,842,903
11/1: $7,015,680

Gains (since 1/1/2025): $954,886

Overall
Gains since 1/1/2013: $6,429,637
Net worth***: $7,415,680

* The big jump between 2019 and 2020 was partly because we bought another home, but kept the previous (much more expensive) one as a rental and started counting it as an investment. We have since sold it.

** Tesla.

*** Includes our primary home equity in addition to our investment portfolio.

Finally, we still have about $290,000 in mortgage debt (which I love!). No regrets about the debts!
