The 1500 children drop the F-bomb

January 15, 2015 by Mr. 1500 Days 54 Comments

There has recently been a very disturbing development in the 1500 household. The 1500 children, ages 7 and 5, have started dropping the F-bomb on a regular basis. Every time I hear it, I cringe and want to yell. I never say it. Neither does Mrs. 1500, so they didn't learn it from us. I place the blame completely on society. It only takes a visit to the local mall or a couple … [Read more...] about The 1500 children drop the F-bomb

The Frugalwoods show how to give a great gift

December 3, 2014 by Mr. 1500 Days 30 Comments

This is part 1 of a 2 part post. I have a nasty rant brewing for tomorrow about a relative who, shall we say, could use a bit of refinement in regards to gift giving and receiving. I had that mean post all ready to go when I noticed this on Frugalwoods: Did you see the tank piston in the picture? After I saw it, I could barely read the rest of the post. I had to know … [Read more...] about The Frugalwoods show how to give a great gift

Berkshire Meeting: Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger speak

May 6, 2014 by Mr. 1500 Days 42 Comments

Quick note: Just like last year, we'll be giving away 2 sets of Buffett/Munger rubber ducks. Tune in on Monday for the ducky details! Hint: Start thinking about who has positively influenced your money decisions... Berkshire Hathaway is Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger's holding company. Anyone can buy a share, well maybe a B share (as of this writing, A shares cost $190,000 … [Read more...] about Berkshire Meeting: Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger speak

Blogs I Dig: The Mad Fientist

January 10, 2014 by Mr. 1500 Days 19 Comments

I'm a born skeptic. I question everything and always have. Even as a young child, I remember people trying to indoctrinate me into their beliefs and my brain would question and then usually reject them. Now that I'm older, I'm as skeptical as ever. I am open to new ideas, but you better have pretty good evidence if you are trying to convince me to change. This is especially … [Read more...] about Blogs I Dig: The Mad Fientist

Me Versus the Trees (and one reason why I appreciate my wife)

December 17, 2013 by Mr. 1500 Days 42 Comments

I am a green person. I'm not a bleeding heart liberal, but I enjoy the outdoors. I like trees and looking at waterfalls. Going to a national park and hiking is my idea of a perfect vacation. Lately though, nature isn't returning the love. Quite the contrary, two trees and a shrub have been attacking my home viciously. The attacks are unprovoked and evil. I'm not sure what I … [Read more...] about Me Versus the Trees (and one reason why I appreciate my wife)

Freedom!

My goal was to build a debt-free* portfolio of $1,000,000 by February of 2017; 1500 days from the birth of this blog (January 1, 2013). And hey look, I’ve since retired!

Investments only
1/1/13 (The Start): $586,043
1/1/14 (1 Yr Later): $869,635
1/1/15 (2 Yrs Later): $987,351
1/1/16 (3 Yrs Later): $1,057,961
1/1/17 (4 Yrs Later): $1,257,128
1/1/18 (5 Yrs Later): $1,527,701
1/1/19 (6 Yrs Later): $1,549,440

2019: Investments only
1/1: $1,549,440

3/1: $1,658,864
4/1: $1,687,526

6/1: Forgot! Doh!

10/1: $1,895,730
11/1: $1,960,626
12/1: $2,000,156

Note: The big jump in September was because we bought another home, but kept the other one as a rental, so now count it as an investment.

2019 gains: $450,716

Overall
Gains: $1,414,113
Net worth**: $2,365,156

*I still have about $90,000 in mortgage debt (which I love!). My solution was to accumulate enough money to cover this or $1,100,000.

**Includes stuff besides investment portfolio including home, cars, dinosaurs…
