I’m on vacation, but I can’t quite stay away from the blog, so I’ll regale you with vacation pictures and tales from the road.
We landed in Newark last Friday. I researched which side of the plane to sit on so we’d have good views. When we landed, we saw the New York City skyline. I’ve never been to NYC, so this excited me greatly:
We stayed in Connecticut and our evening was equally exciting, but not in a good way. The hotel had good ratings, but wasn’t in the greatest part of town. Every hooligan in a 30 mile radius was staying in the room next to ours. They were up until at least 3am drinking and shouting. I couldn’t let this inconsiderate behavior go unrewarded.
I’m an early riser, even when I don’t go to sleep until 3am. I woke up at 6am and gave the jerks next door a wake up call. I let the phone ring long enough to wake them and then hung up. Shouting ensued from the other side of the wall, but this time it was extreme anger instead of drunken raving. I repeated the call at 6:15 and then at 6:30. They were not happy. They were also not smart enough to unplug the phone.
Before we left at 8:30am, I pulled the car up next to their room and laid on the horn for at least 5 seconds. I hope you enjoyed your wake up call jerks.
Tree House
I told my girls that we were headed to a tree house and they were overcome with joy. The joy quickly faded when they realized what tree house we were actually visiting:
I had a Julius (American IPA) and a Haze (Imperial IPA). These were high octane beers and it wasn’t long before the dinosaurs and I were feeling really good.
Ogunquit
One of my favorite things to do when I visit a new place is walk around aimlessly. My favorite time is early in the morning when I have the place to myself. Ogunquit is a perfect place to wander. The beachside town is beautiful and has a wonderful path that hugs the ocean.
And I never miss out on a chance to educate my girls. One of my goals as a father is to bestow my sophisticated sense of humor on their malleable minds:
Finally, we headed north to visit my friend who blogs at FrugalFringe. There, we discovered wondrous things including beautiful views, McLobster and bread in a can:
On Friday, we head to the Frugal Woods of Vermont where we’ll visit a certain greyhound and drink from the cauldron of the Alchemist.

Haha, I love the “Next Warren Buffett” shirt. Get them started young! It looks like an awesome trip so far, enjoy the beautiful northeast!

I LOVE that my kids both know who Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger are. Now, let’s hope they don’t turn into teenage hooligans!
Maine is beautiful country. I haven’t visited in years. We camped at Acadia National Park when I was a kid. Do they still have lobster trucks on the side of the road? Safe travels.

No lobster trucks, but Acadia was beautiful!
Your daughters are hysterical. You got to teach them young! 🙂 If you enjoyed the McDonald’s lobster roll and you intend to travel back down the same way make sure to stop in Kittery ME at Bob’s Clam Hut. My sister lived in Bar Harbor ME (her inlaws still do) and every year I would drive or fly up to Maine and make it my mission to seek out the best lobster roll. Bob’s is still a favorite and well worth the tiny one mile detour off 95. 🙂
Have a great time with the rest of your trip and thank you for your choice of air travel and ultimately the contribution to my paycheck!

Enjoy your trip. Those beers look delightful. Have plenty of them!!!
I see what you’re trying to do here. And believe me, I’m sabotaging myself all on my own. No “help” from Mr. More BeerPants required thank you!
The Lobsta Rolls are also delicious… Enjoy as many as you can possibly stuff down your gullet.
Also, remember Dunkin’ Donuts is like religion up there, so make sure you stop by every morning!! The crullers are divine and they make a hell of a cup of joe!
McLobster is totally awesome! Had so many of these when I visited the Maritimes many moons ago. Enjoy your trip.
I know, right? I had it the day after I had a roll from a reputable lobster shack and it was almost as good. With that said, I also enjoy Taco Bell.
Wait…what? McDonalds makes a lobster roll? My mind is just blown.
Great vacation photos. Seems like you guys are having tons of fun!

Bread in a can…oh so many terrible terrible thoughts on how that tastes, works, etc. The McLobster looks yummy. Although I would be less trusting down here in Phoenix. I also have my reservations on Sushi in the desert at times. Looks like you are having a fantastic trip and playing with lots of butts. Thanks for sharing!
Welcome to New Jersey…now get out! – The unofficial state motto.
Wow, only a few days into your visit and you have already had a nice capture of local culture and flavor. CT is not normally known for the rowdy population, however you could have been at a hotel with a wedding party – sorry to hear about that, but glad you made your impression on them.
Very jealous of your visits to some of the best breweries in the land. Will be interested to hear your impression on how the Treehouse brews compare to the OG of New England IPAs at the Alchemist.
Please make sure you have another “LOB-STAH” Roll at an establishment not named McDonald’s.
Highlight of your update is your Daughter’s T-Shirt – Just Awesome. Have fun and enjoy your northeast Adventure.
It’s great up here, despite those assholes at the hotel! My first impression is that Tree House is very good, but not quite as good as Heady Topper. I should have a better idea tomorrow when I down a a can or three of Heady Topper.
And damn, I had lobster from some other places and holy crap, those things are delicious.
Dude, you shoulda hit us up for your stay in CT. While I can’t promise there wouldn’t have been any late night drinking, at least you would have been in on it 🙂
That Treehouse makes some good brews. A buddy just gave me a can of their Lights On Pale Ale yesterday after a bike ride. I might have to break into it tonight after seeing your pics 🙂
We’ll be around next week and might be able to make a trip to NYC 8/1 or 8/2. Enjoy the Heady Toppers!
That would be awesome if you came down 8/1 or 8/2! I think I’m gonna meet with some others on 8/2, but I’d make time for you on 8/1 as well. I think I’ll even have some Heady Toppers in tow! Come on down!
Sweet! We’ll plan on heading to the city for 8/2. I’ll have some tasty brews in tow as well 🙂
Awesome! I’ll have a can or two of Heady Topper and Focal Banger…
hahahaha I love your sense your humors. Your girls are very lucky to have you. I still like to act like I am 5 sometimes. It’s the best. I am glad you were able to reward those jerks…I just don’t get people sometimes.

We should meet sometime. I could tell you fart and butt jokes all day long…
Oh man, sorry about the hooligans. Sounds like a great trip after you made a quick getaway, though.
How as the McLobster? Looks awesome. I’ve never been to NYC and it’s on my someday list. Have fun!
You did the McLobster? I think I almost had a heart attack. A lobster roll from McDonalds? (ok secretly I have wanted to try it). Ogunquit is beautiful. I don’t know if you got a chance, but Allagash brewery in Portland is fantabulous….and there are five good breweries here in Pawtucket, RI!
Also, if you can stop in New Hampshire and do some of the wineries…you can go from Portsmouth over and then drive down to Boston. Great thing about those wineries is that the tastings are FREE!

Great pictures, have fun!

Oh, no! You were in my backyard and I missed you! I live on Mount Desert Island and think it is the most beautiful place in the world!
Oh holy crap, I adore you for your vengeance on the loud hotel guests. We’re having a similar problem with a certain neighbor who plays basketball at 3 am (and not quietly–he makes “Woooooop!” noises to go with it). Maybe I can get my own vengeance. Hmmm…

lol, the horn was probably a little overboard, just because of the other guests.
You SOB! My jaw literally dropped for Tree House Brewing. Jealous. I’ve had Julius before, it’s damn delicious. Fitting beer for my middle name. Now I’m going to obsess about wanting a Julius all weekend. I’ll have to try to find a PsuedoSue to quench my obsession.

Those pictures of your girls are hilarious! I love the t-shirt ‘next Warren Buffet’…. I’m sure your daughters know that anything boys can do, girls can do better. 🙂
I’m also an aimless wanderer. I feel that it is as good for brain health as it is for physical health. Many great thinkers walked for hours each day.

Haha, love the Next Warren Buffett t-shirt for your girls. Looks like you’re having a great time. The NYC skyline is pretty cool when you fly in. Manhattan isn’t really that big and they pack it all in.

Beautiful pictures! Enjoy your vacation. Your kids are adorable. I was intrigued by the McLobster! It actually looks good.
Great pics!
I need me some of that McLobster! Not so fussed about the bread in a can though haha.
Hope you had a great time in my home state. Alas I won’t make it up there this summer for the first time in a long time. Maybe ever. Great pics. Thanks for sharing!

I work right near the new Tree House Brewery location. The line has been out the door since it opened a month or two ago. The new place is just as amazing as the beer. Glad you got to try it out.
Yeah, super amazing! And best of all, the beer lived up to the hype. I WILL be back!!!
