Faffing About In Florida

January 8, 2019 by Mr. 1500 Days 7 Comments

I haven’t written much lately because we’ve been on 2+ week adventure in Florida. The great thing about being severely underemployed (blogger!) is that you can take long, leisurely vacations. And that’s exactly what we did in Florida.

Our trip was broken down into 4 parts. First, we went to visit our friends the Penny Planters. Then, we went to visit old neighbors near Orlando. After that, it was off to Hutchinson Island to frolic on the beach for a while. Finally, we attended Camp FI near Gainesville. We just got back into Colorado yesterday.

I’ll return to my frenetic posting schedule next week. In the meantime, enjoy some pictures of our adventures in Florida.

About to touch down in Orlando
Lighthouse on Sanibel Island
Collecting shells on Sanibel
Southern Florida sunset
The Everglades!

Near Orlando, we went to Amazing Animals, a non-profit dedicated to exotic animal rescue.

Python!
Younger Daughter did NOT appreciate the python.
The lemur was my favorite animal. This one had infinite energy.
Our girls loved the sloths.

Our next stop was Orlando.

We managed to score free tickets to Gatorland. Younger Daughter wanted nothing to do with this attraction, but Older Daughter loved it.
On New Year’s Day, Older Daughter and I ran a 5k. We tied at about 31 minutes!

Our next stop was Hutchinson Island.

Whenever I’m at a beach that faces East, I make it a point to watch the sunrise over the ocean every day.
Another one
Of course, sunsets aren’t bad either
Before we left the area, we went to the Navy Seal Museum

We finished the trip at Camp FI Southeast. Camp FIs are ridiculously fun events that are all about community. I always meet incredible people at these shindigs. There are still tickets available for some of them, so check one out near you.

At the camp, I gave a talk which gives me a great excuse to wear this ridiculous shirt:

One of my favorite traditions at Camp FI is to “borrow” unattended phones and take pictures of Frugalsaurus and Spendosaurus. However, at one point I left my phone and the dinosaurs unattended and someone turned the tables:

The beer tasting

I’ll see you next week with updates on 2018 finances, 2019 goals and more titillating content. Stay warm.

Wife and I love Sanibel island. Great place to visit, along with the Keys, but after staying one time in August, we confirmed we could never stay in FL year round. It is a developed swamp after all. Best time to visit is from Jan-Mar… don’t tell anybody šŸ˜‰ Rent a boat and anchor off Sanibel with a cooler prepared for lunch.

I couldn’t believe how warm Florida was at the end of December. I CANNOT imagine living there in July. I’m with you there!
