I live in Colorado now, but I feel most at home in the Midwest. I grew up outside of Chicago and lived near the city most of my life. As a young child, I remember my dad teaching me how to identify tractors. Farm equipment aside, I embrace it all! State fairs, 4H, corn, Iowa; it’s all great!
Anyway, I’m in Bloomington Indiana now with Older Daughter who is attending a conference. I’ve never been here before, but the town is easy to like. I have found friendly people, abundant bike lanes, and eclectic food. We leave for Chicago today. After that, we head to Madison and Minneapolis. I will be back in Bloomington someday.

Bloomington is the best! We just (1.5 months ago) moved from there to Iowa (to be closer to family), but I could have lived there forever! Hopefully you had some time to check out the restaurants on 4th street as well as the local brewery/distillery/winery scene!

As a born Iowa gal and now live down under it was great to hear your journey on the Aussi Firebug podcast. Have fun with the kiddos in the Midwest, it certainly has it’s own family oriented culture. I hold many family gatherings dear to my heart while in the Midwest before moving to AZ for the rest of my childhood (no wonder I found myself living in another desert haha). Hope you you make it Australia one day and check out the beautiful beaches and coastlines!
