Mrs. 1500’s Last Half Marathon Update of the Year

December 19, 2018 by Mrs. 1500 5 Comments

Hi there, Mrs. 1500 today, making one of those awful, end-of-year jokes.

This will be my last running update of the year. We’re traveling during Christmas and New Year’s, and attending CampFI Southeast Week One, which is sold out.

Week Two, however, still has a few tickets available – and some pretty awesome guest speakers. (Can’t make it to these weekends? There are more! And across the country, too. Check out campfi.org for a list of all the weekends this awesome retreat is happening.)

I ran this week. My friend Angi, who is the impetus behind my running in the first place, ran with me around the local lake. It’s about 3.5 miles around, and we ran it in under an hour. (I know, I called the news already.)

I did a bunch of runs at 100 mile club with the girls, and over the weekend we want to Great Wolf Lodge to play in the indoor water park with the girls. They had a blast!

We came home from the water park with one sick girl, so I have not yet run this week. I will be taking running clothes and shoes with me on my trip, and hope to run at least every other day.

My weight continues to frustrate me. At one point over the past week I was down to 176, but popped back up to where I was last week just in time for weigh-in.

I hope your end of year celebrations are joyous, your family doesn’t drive you nuts, and your children are appreciative of everything.

Wish me luck saying no to holiday goodies….

OK, I’ll see you next year!

Good luck in refraining from holiday goodies! (helps that I don’t like candy canes much. But gingerbread….watch out!). I’ve tried to make it a rule to only eat homemade goodies, but this time of year, there’s so much home baked stuff, I have to stick to only stuff I make.
Also- having a kitchenaid mixer with 3 bowls makes it way to damn easy to bake pretty much anything.

I am impressed you ran around a lake in the middle of winter- it’s cold out!

Sending you all the best wishes f0r your fitness/weight loss journey! It is frustrating to put effort into running, yet not see much progress on the scale. However, it’s also normal. I highly recommend the book “Why We Get Fat: And What to Do About It” by Gary Taubes for a good explanation about why this is the case.

Major kudos to you for investing in your health through exercise. Wishing you happy holidays and a great and healthy start to 2019!

Half marathons are no joke, and if you are running multiples in the same year– you have some serious toughness. I ran one this year, and that was plenty for me.

Unfortunately, it’s too cold now here in the midwest to run outside, so I am on hiatus for a few months.

Freedom!

My goal was to build a portfolio of $1,000,000 by February of 2017; 1500 days from the birth of this blog (January 1, 2013). And hey look, I’ve since retired!

Investments only (primary home excluded)
1/1/13 (The Start): $586,043
1/1/14 (1 Yr Later): $869,635
1/1/15 (2 Yrs Later): $987,351
1/1/16 (3 Yrs Later): $1,057,961
1/1/17 (4 Yrs Later): $1,257,128
1/1/18 (5 Yrs Later): $1,527,701
1/1/19 (6 Yrs Later): $1,549,440
1/1/20 (7 Yrs Later): $2,035,040*
1/1/21 (8 Yrs Later): $3,379,746**
1/1/22 (9 Yrs Later): $4,762,642
1/1/23 (10 Yrs Later): $3,112,821

2023: Investments only
1/1: $3,112,821

Overall
2023 investment gains: $0
Investment gains since 1/1/2013: $2,526,778
Net worth***: $3,342,821

* The big jump between 2019 and 2020 was partly because we bought another home, but kept the previous (much more expensive) one as a rental. We have since sold it.

** Tesla.

*** Includes our primary home equity in addition to our investment portfolio.

Finally, we still have about $290,000 in mortgage debt (which I love!). No regrets about the debts!
