And we made it to Sunriver! But not without a little drama.
The Check Engine light came on somewhere in Idaho. We took the car to an auto parts store for diagnosis and fortunately the problem wasn’t a serious one (bad gas?).
One of the best parts of road trips is stumbling upon something awesome. This is precisely what happened when we got off the highway to go to the auto parts store. We discovered the Perrine Memorial Bridge and the Snake River:
We also found a local buffet which must have known I was coming:
My Longmont friend F.E.N. suggested we visit Shoshone Falls:
We didn’t have much time in Boise, but I liked what I saw:
Finally, we made it to Oregon.
I’m enjoying the slow pace of this trip. I’m a planner, so I have to make an effort not to plan. To put it another way, I have to make an effort not to make an effort! But it’s fun to let life just come to you.
We have some more time in Sunriver before we head to Crater Lake and the California coast.
Life is good.

Beautiful pictures.
I visited Idaho 10 years back. I guess it did not change much. I will check if I have a picture with Petrine memorial bridge. I will send it to you. 🙂
I wanted to ask last time. If you are visiting Bend, OR, are you seeing Scott Rieckens and family. If yes, please say hi from his book reader. It is his book which made me think and move from Irvine to Irving ?
I am seeing him today! I will relay the message!
Thank you ??. Have a great time.
Thanks for sharing your adventures—inspires me.
Thanks!
Mr. 1500 Days recently posted…Road Trip: Update 2! (Boise And Sunriver)
Glad the check engine light was not a major issue. Travelling off the major highways open up many adventures. Keep enjoying the roadtrip.
Yeah, that was a bit scary!
Ah was in Boise last summer and visited Twin Falls and loved the visitor center views of the Perrine Bridge, there is even an Evel Kneivel jump site monument thing there. Boise might be small but the greenway with bridges and Julia Davis park are lovely.
Enjoy Coastal CA Carl! Let me know where you end up going out here and if you need any tips!
Thanks Gary! I’ll ping you when we pass near your part of the world!
Welcome to Idaho! So sorry your first experience in my home state was a tank of bad gas. I’m about 4 hours North of Boise in the breadbasket region. Google “images Palouse” if you have any interest in what Idaho looks like just below the panhandle. Hope the rest of your trip goes well and you have a lovely time in Oregon. I always enjoy reading about your travel adventures.
Whoah, that’s really beautiful!
And thank you for the kind comment!
