Mile High FI: Paula Pant, JL Collins, and MMM

January 27, 2022 by Mr. 1500 Days 2 Comments

My favorite part of having a podcast is that I get to interact with amazing humans. Doug and I have been fortunate to be able to talk to some of the founding members of the FI community recently.Paula Pant Talks InflationInflation has been in the news. Every. Single. *&^%ing. Day. In this interview, we get the lowdown from Paula Pant of Afford Anything.Listen … [Read more...] about Mile High FI: Paula Pant, JL Collins, and MMM

Mile High FI: J. Money

January 5, 2022 by Mr. 1500 Days 3 Comments

Budgets Are Sexy was one of the first blogs I discovered when I started my blogging journey. At the time, the author of the blog was J. Money, a mysterious dude who sported strange hair.I liked J. Money's style. He wasn't afraid to write about taboo topics like working as a phone sex operator. He also had a unique voice that wouldn't have gotten him a gig at the Wall Street … [Read more...] about Mile High FI: J. Money

Mile High FI: Ask Us Anything

June 23, 2021 by Mr. 1500 Days 4 Comments

I'm not going to write a post about every podcast, but this one was the most fun one yet, so I'll blab about it just a little here. We had innocent intentions for this episode, but it eventually devolved into a discussion of asparagus pee. Doug and I had a load of fun recording it.Juvenile antics aside, perhaps the most fun part of blogging/podcasting is interacting with … [Read more...] about Mile High FI: Ask Us Anything

Who Are You Really?

May 27, 2021 by Mr. 1500 Days 5 Comments

For better or worse (mostly worse), external pressures tend to shape our personalities. This coercion comes from:Our careers: You need to impress Bob if you want the promotion! Our neighbors: Look at our new SUX 6000! You should get one too!Family: You sister (insert one: moved out, had a baby, got a new job, got straight A). When are you going to be more like her?Friends: … [Read more...] about Who Are You Really?

New Challenges To Conquer Old Weaknesses (Future You!)

May 9, 2021 by Mr. 1500 Days 14 Comments

Part of successful living is identifying your weaknesses, creating a plan to defeat them, and executing.Example: TennisI suck at tennis.I'm going to take lessons and practice regularly.I will work had and be tenacious. I will hit lots of balls. That was lean on detail. Allow me to elaborate:Example 2: WritingAcknowledge the weakness: I'm not a good writer but … [Read more...] about New Challenges To Conquer Old Weaknesses (Future You!)

Freedom!

My goal was to build a portfolio of $1,000,000 by February of 2017; 1500 days from the birth of this blog (January 1, 2013). And hey look, I’ve since retired!

Investments only (primary home excluded)
1/1/13 (The Start): $586,043
1/1/14 (1 Yr Later): $869,635
1/1/15 (2 Yrs Later): $987,351
1/1/16 (3 Yrs Later): $1,057,961
1/1/17 (4 Yrs Later): $1,257,128
1/1/18 (5 Yrs Later): $1,527,701
1/1/19 (6 Yrs Later): $1,549,440
1/1/20 (7 Yrs Later): $2,035,040*
1/1/21 (8 Yrs Later): $3,379,746**
1/1/22 (9 Yrs Later): $4,762,642
1/1/23 (10 Yrs Later): $3,112,821

2023: Investments only
1/1: $3,112,821

Overall
2023 investment gains: $0
Investment gains since 1/1/2013: $2,526,778
Net worth***: $3,342,821

* The big jump between 2019 and 2020 was partly because we bought another home, but kept the previous (much more expensive) one as a rental. We have since sold it.

** Tesla.

*** Includes our primary home equity in addition to our investment portfolio.

Finally, we still have about $290,000 in mortgage debt (which I love!). No regrets about the debts!
