Anti-Fitness Update

August 24, 2018 by Mr. 1500 Days 23 Comments

Today, I was supposed to publish a fitness update. Unfortunately, I’ve been out of town, so I have no way to weigh myself or check my measurements. Also unfortunately, I went to the Minnesota State Fair.

Don’t get me wrong, the state fair was great. The weather was perfect:

I like tractors and there were millions of them there:

It all started to go wrong when I spotted this:

This place sells heart busting, deep-fried cheese curds. You heard correct. Cheese isn’t unhealthy enough, so let’s deep fry it! Ugggh.

The siren call of the cheese curd was overpowering, so I got in line. This was a poor decision.

When it came time to order, instead of opting for the modest tray (probably only 1,000,000 calories), I went for the bucket option (~ 1,000,000,000 calories). This was a very poor decision.

It didn’t stop there. Next, we headed to the dairy area. And… Well… Sigh:

Let’s review. Today, I ate:

  • Most of a bucket of fried cheese
  • A very large sundae

I walk, therefore I walk

In better news, there is a lot of walking to be done at a fair and walk I did. I’ve also been walking a lot in general. My goal for the year is 6,000,000 steps and I’m up to 4,232,274:

I’ve averaged 18,009 steps per day. If I maintain this pace, I’ll finish the year with 6,573,285 steps.

I’ll be back in a couple weeks with a proper update. In the meantime, keep me the hell away from cheese curds.

Is that a cinnamon toast crunch sundae?!?!? You’re just calorie cycling to trick your body? Right?

Smores Sundae with Golden Grahams. It was friggin’ outstanding.

Calorie cycling! Yeah, that’s it. I had to look it up. That’s totally what I did. 🙂

Yeah the Dairy Bar at the Indiana state fair usually gets me to indulge a bit more than I want. This year they had an “inside out” grilled cheese. Gouda in the middle, two slices of bread then cheddar on the outside that was grilled so you got those crispy edges. So good… I did manage to avoid eating the deep fried Sugar Cream Pie as good as it looked…

If a state fair served only broccoli, would anyone come?

At least you stayed away from the lethal combo of “Mt Dew/Blue Raspberry” slushie and hard cider that made up a good chunk of my dinner. I was feeling GOOD until, very suddenly, I was not. Good times at the State Fair!

      I second the Juicy Lucy!

I’m not positive but I think it’s against some type of law to visit MN or WI and leave without eating cheese curds.

The deep fried cheese must have been amazing. I love burnt cheese. But the deep fried Oreo is superior!

18,000 steps per day is impressive. I started tracking a few months ago and I rarely hit 10,000 on a weekday. Sitting at a desk doesn’t help.

As we’ve discussed, the gym is hard with kids! I’ve been ramping up my workouts since school started too.

Ha! An anti-fitness update! That’s clever! Better luck next time I guess.

Now that my kids are getting older I feel like I finally have more time for fitness related activities. It took 5 years, but I finally don’t have to carry around a kid or push a stroller all the time! Hurrah!

I love State Fairs. We had one close to my childhood home. I would walk there every day of the fair wander around the livestock areas checking out the horses, cows, goats, sheep, emu, etc. Can’t beat the pig races either! Then there are the new cars. It’s cool to check out all the new model cars and trucks without having a pesky car salesman hounding you.

We recently got back from Chicago for a family wedding. Chicago is a very interesting city. In the downtown area there are so many things to do, there wasn’t enough time to visit all the museums, Wrigley field, river tours, zoos, etc. It was a great trip. Lot’s of walking to counteract the deep dish pizza, beef sandwiches, beers, sausages,….

I was wondering what that thumping noise was every time I walked by you this weekend. The cheese curds were causing your heart to explode! Pretty impressive you were able to stay on your feet the whole time. You probably just walked it off with your 18k steps.
