Ask the Readers: Slacking Off Edition

March 30, 2015 by Mr. 1500 Days 14 Comments

Hi there, Mrs. 1500 getting a late start today.

Johnny Moneyseed and Laura from My Shiny Nickels came to visit us this weekend. We had a great time, spending far too many hours chatting and staying up waaaay too late.

On Saturday, we had a party, and met David and John from DebtFreeGuys and the couple from The-Recreator.

Last night, instead of being responsible and writing up a new question, we played Ticket to Ride – Europe with The Moneyseeds.

So next week we will be back on schedule, and next week I will have another question for you. Enjoy your day.

I am on his email list and recently got an email saying that he would be writing again soon after his hiatus.

        Is that still the case?

Ticket to Ride Europe is such a different game than the US version. Instead of relying on the 5 & 6 length segments, the game seems to hinge on multiple routes and use of the stations. Love both games, but I suck at the European one. I never win.

We played that game with family over Christmas. It was surprisingly a lot of fun.

Love Ticket to Ride. The European version IMO is much better than the US version, especially when you get more players to play. Apparently there’s an India version too, that might be interesting to play.

I’ve heard the Europe version of TTR is a lot better than the regular version. I find that the regular version gets boring after a few play throughs, but not sure if I’m just too picky when it comes to board games.

Love ticket to ride! I’ve only played the European version once, and I actually managed to win that time. My friend always seems to dominate the US map as I can never seem to find the right strategy to win.

Freedom!

My goal was to build a portfolio of $1,000,000 by February of 2017; 1500 days from the birth of this blog (January 1, 2013). And hey look, I’ve since retired!

Investments only (primary home excluded)
1/1/13 (The Start): $586,043
1/1/14 (1 Yr Later): $869,635
1/1/15 (2 Yrs Later): $987,351
1/1/16 (3 Yrs Later): $1,057,961
1/1/17 (4 Yrs Later): $1,257,128
1/1/18 (5 Yrs Later): $1,527,701
1/1/19 (6 Yrs Later): $1,549,440
1/1/20 (7 Yrs Later): $2,035,040*
1/1/21 (8 Yrs Later): $3,379,746**
1/1/22 (9 Yrs Later): $4,762,642
1/1/23 (10 Yrs Later): $3,112,821

2023: Investments only
1/1: $3,112,821

Overall
2023 investment gains: $0
Investment gains since 1/1/2013: $2,526,778
Net worth***: $3,342,821

* The big jump between 2019 and 2020 was partly because we bought another home, but kept the previous (much more expensive) one as a rental. We have since sold it.

** Tesla.

*** Includes our primary home equity in addition to our investment portfolio.

Finally, we still have about $290,000 in mortgage debt (which I love!). No regrets about the debts!
