Tumultuous Times And Some Cuban Downtime

June 18, 2018 by Mr. 1500 Days 27 Comments

Life has been tumultuous lately. Mrs. 1500 and I thought that we'd raise our girls in our current home. We put a lot of work into it and were happy with it:Even though I've written about moving before, we never thought that we'd go through with it. However, something recently changed which has us considering moving in 2019. The change that made us reconsider isn't a … [Read more...] about Tumultuous Times And Some Cuban Downtime

Wanna Race in Portland?

January 1, 2018 by Mr. 1500 Days 39 Comments

So, one of my goals for 2018 is to get myself into the best shape that my 44 year-old carcass will tolerate. But, where do I start? My friend Laura is in super-shape, is super-smart and likes to say: It all starts with cardio. If cardio is what Laura recommends, I'm going with it. Hop Hop Half in Portland! At the same time, Mr. WoW and I decided that we needed to come up … [Read more...] about Wanna Race in Portland?

Would You Take The Warren Buffett Bet?

December 27, 2017 by Mr. 1500 Days 24 Comments

A couple folks asked me fun questions related to stocks and Warren Buffett recently...Question #1: Stocks? Last month, a very smart person asked me this. How do you pick stocks? The short answer is: I don't. The longer answer is: I mostly don't. It's complicated. I realize that I'm not making much sense. I'll try to explain.Individual stocks mostly scare me and … [Read more...] about Would You Take The Warren Buffett Bet?

Discipline Equals Freedom

November 29, 2017 by Mr. 1500 Days 36 Comments

One of my favorite quotes comes from retired Navy SEAL, Jocko Willink: Discipline equals freedom It's simple and complicated at the same time. See, what makes this quote powerful is the infinite derivations:Discipline equals wealth: Work hard, control your spending for a couple decades and boom!; you just may find yourself sitting on a golden nest egg.Discipline … [Read more...] about Discipline Equals Freedom

About the Time One of My Heroes Called Me a Loser

September 19, 2017 by Mr. 1500 Days 97 Comments

If you're reading this blog, you're probably a saver. And I'd bet you'd cringe a little if someone called you a spender. Frugality is nerdy. And by nerdy, I mean cool. So, I laughed a little when someone forwarded me an article written by Robert Kiyosaki (author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad) where he called me a loser: And then it got worse. Robert called us out by … [Read more...] about About the Time One of My Heroes Called Me a Loser

Freedom!

My goal was to build a portfolio of $1,000,000 by February of 2017; 1500 days from the birth of this blog (January 1, 2013). And hey look, I’ve since retired!

Investments only (primary home excluded)
1/1/13 (The Start): $586,043
1/1/14 (1 Yr Later): $869,635
1/1/15 (2 Yrs Later): $987,351
1/1/16 (3 Yrs Later): $1,057,961
1/1/17 (4 Yrs Later): $1,257,128
1/1/18 (5 Yrs Later): $1,527,701
1/1/19 (6 Yrs Later): $1,549,440
1/1/20 (7 Yrs Later): $2,035,040*
1/1/21 (8 Yrs Later): $3,379,746**
1/1/22 (9 Yrs Later): $4,762,642
1/1/23 (10 Yrs Later): $3,112,821

2023: Investments only
1/1: $3,112,821

Overall
2023 investment gains: $0
Investment gains since 1/1/2013: $2,526,778
Net worth***: $3,342,821

* The big jump between 2019 and 2020 was partly because we bought another home, but kept the previous (much more expensive) one as a rental. We have since sold it.

** Tesla.

*** Includes our primary home equity in addition to our investment portfolio.

Finally, we still have about $290,000 in mortgage debt (which I love!). No regrets about the debts!
