Life has been tumultuous lately. Mrs. 1500 and I thought that we’d raise our girls in our current home. We put a lot of work into it and were happy with it:

Even though I’ve written about moving before, we never thought that we’d go through with it. However, something recently changed which has us considering moving in 2019. The change that made us reconsider isn’t a good one, but I’m excited to see where this next chapter in our life takes us. I’ll explain later.
And hey, I finally got to use the word tumultuous in my writing! Cross that one off the bucket list. I know, that word isn’t super impressive, but you’re not reading Hemingway here either.
Eagles may soar, but weasels don’t get hit by planes.
Greatest Hits!
Anyway, we’re in Florida now where it’s hot and steamy. I dislike hot and steamy, but life is good when you’re near the ocean:
In a couple hours, Mrs. 1500 and I head off to Cuba. I hope our adventures in Havana are better than Go Curry Cracker’s.
I won’t have internet access in Havana (I’m just hoping for toilet paper!), so I’m taking this week off from the blog. In the meantime, enjoy some of my less sucky posts:
Swinger Side Hustle: There is no polite way to say this, so I’ll just come right out and say it: My neighbors’ side hustle is swinger parties.
Enough: Have you found your level of enough yet? I struggle with mine sometimes. When I do, I make myself read my own post. So yeaaaah, I’m kinda strange.
Adventures with the law in Iowa: I was innocently passing through Council Bluffs Iowa when the police hassled me. None of it would have happened if I wasn’t a frugal weirdo.
No Capital Gains (Capital Gains Harvesting)!: Now that I’m not working anymore, I make a lot less money. Mrs. 1500 still works, but I found a way to work the tax code to avoid capital gains anyway.
Don’t be like me: The most important advice I can give you on your journey to financial independence is to enjoy the journey. I didn’t as much as I should have. Looking back, this was a ridiculous way to live. Make every day count, even if you have to spend it with a pointy-haired boss that you despise. Life is too short to live any other way.
See You Soon
My path is now a little uncertain. We moved into our current home almost exactly 5 years ago. Now, here I am writing about moving and it’s surreal. It hasn’t quite sunk in yet.
The uncertainty of life is what makes it fun. While I won’t deny that it’s a bit scary too, having decades of my life all planned out and known sounds boring and terrible. The curveballs that life throws at us and how we deal with them are what defines us.
I’m not sure what’s around the next turn, but I’ll try to enjoy the view always.

You can’t just leave us with a cliff hanger like that, Carl!! Why do you want to move!?! Inquiring minds must know!
Haha, more soon!
I once had a neighbor who was running an “escort business”. I took the approach of making life so uncomfortable for them that I forced them out. But yes, it sucked.
Whoah. Now that is a suboptimal side hustle!
That’s terrible. But it did remind me of this Ugly house (well it’s technically 4 1950’s ranch houses) that I used to drive by all the time

I did get a tour and it is just BAD. I’m sure his neighbors are glad he isn’t around any more
Oh my, you saw that thing in person? Yikes. Make an offer. A really, really low one!
Accidental FIRE. How exactly did you go about stopping that? Asking for a…. uh friend (well me). My neighbor across the way is either running one or a very frequent flier. And it skeeves my wife out to no end.
I tell my sister to never finish all the projects on their “current” home. As soon as they finish and get it exactly the way they want it, they feel they should move. Start over.
I’m assuming you will come out fine money wise. It is the time spent getting it exactly how you want (or close) that you can’t get back.
Life is short. Move if you want to. Maybe buy a “needs very little fixing” home next time. 🙂 🙂
“As soon as they finish and get it exactly the way they want it, they feel they should move. Start over.”
I’m guilty of this too, but this time, we really had planned to stay.
Money wise, we’ll probably come out better. We live near the town center which is pricey. We’ll have more house for less money. I still wouldn’t have moved if conditions would have stayed the same.
And yeah, I’m not devoting my life to another house! Although, since I don’t have a job, I’ll actually have time to work on any projects, at least when the girls are in school.
Thanks for your words Wade!
fruity rum drinks and ropa vieja! enjoy that

The tumultuous cliff hanger — it’s like watching a soap opera. Since we’ve retired, it’s the trailer trips that take us around a corner we have never been before that motivates and adds such excitement to life. You guys are more daring that me, selling your home periodically, traveling to Cuba. I look forward to the next installment of “As the World Turns”!
Haha, I didn’t mean to leave with a dramatic cliffhanger. I didn’t have time to do the “explanation” post justice, so you get this crappy one instead! 🙂
More soon…
Wow, moving huh? That was a fast change of direction! I hope all is well.
Enjoy your trip to Cuba! 🙂

I can’t wait to hear about Cuba. I hope you’re getting outside of Havana to see what Cuba is really like.
Ohhh, your house is so beautiful. Wow. I’d be bummed to leave that behind too!
That cliff hanger has me sitting at the edge of my seat, but I know you’ll update everyone when you and your family are ready. Have a great time in Cuba, I’ve heard it’s beautiful (like it was frozen in time).
Hope everything works out for you. Also hope you move to CT if you have to move 😉
Have fun in Cuba!
Jeez, is this your idea of a marshmallow test?
Can’t wait to hear the full story – hopefully your time away will help you settle it in your own mind.
Enjoy Cuba!
I am running out of popcorn over here waiting on this cliffhanger. I hope you have a great time in Cuba and look forward to reading about what the future holds.

Since Carl accidentally left us with this cliffhanger, I’ll allow my imagination to fill in the gaps for everyone. The 1500s love living in northern Colorado, but just realized they’d love it even more if they lived approximatey 29.8 miles further north. You know, so they could borrow our sugar more readily as needed.
In all seriousness, we’re going to really miss you guys if you move away, but of course we’ll always support you doing what feels right for your family. Best wishes!
I thought we would never move from the house we built on the land we bought through a tax foreclosure auction, and so far we haven’t. But as my uncle pointed out – “never is a long time.” Things change.
Have fun in Cuba. I hear it’s like going back in time.

Even though you move, 1500days will surely move with you. That is one of my greatest motivation about blogging. And that has made me to keep working on my blog. I almost gave up when my website statistics suddenly plunged. But now, it seems to be coming up again. I wish you and family the best.

Looks like you’ll have to update your mortgage disclaimer from the sidebar now too…
Moving?!? I’ll echo the others – I can’t wait to hear more since I know this was not in the plans! 🙂 I love what you’ve done with the house, made it look more of the style these days, and it’s something I wonder if we should work on, on our house – updating the interior & exterior. Give it some curb appeal, at least. Yours looks very well done and has a “built recently!” thing about it. I like it!
Enjoy Cuba! We hope to get there within the next couple years since regulations seem to be opening up? Are you flying right to Havana from Florida instead of going through Canada or Mexico? Can you tell us how you did this vacation on a frugal lifestyle?
HAVE FUN!!!!
Hope to hear more soon, if not in August when I venture out your way. I know a lot of us make plans and all the sudden a parent falls ill. That’s been the case for a number of my coworkers who do the right thing and take a parent into their house, or move to be closer to them.
I hope your case isn’t anything dire, but one that’s just a twist in the road of life. Can’t wait to hear about Cuba – we love listening to our Buena Vista Social Club station on Pandora quite a bit. Need to get there.
Can’t wait to hear about Cuba! Sorry there is something driving a change, which I still can’t quite tell is good or bad. Maybe a chat over a beer? 🙂 I still marvel at what you did with that house!
