We’re on the Mad Fientist and Shop My Closet Podcasts!

Hello Mad Fientist!

Screen Shot 2015-09-29 at 6.32.58 AMPlease join me for a short journey in the Wayback Machine. The year was 2013. 1500 Days was less than a year old and since I was enjoying writing for the blog, I figured that it would be a good idea to go to FinCon, a conference for finance media creators.

The first night of the conference, I attended an opening night party. I was a bit terrified, standing there (beer in hand) surrounded by strange faces. Out of the blue, the guy next to me said something like:

Hey, I enjoy your blog.

I looked at his face and had no idea who he was. I then glanced down to his name-tag and a huge smile spread across my face as I realized that it was none other than the Mad Fientist. The Fientist and I chatted often over the course of the conference and again at FinCon 2014.

At the 2015 conference just a couple weeks ago, Mrs. 1500 and I had great fun when the Fientist interviewed us. The interview is now live! Please click over to Mad Fientist to listen to Mrs. 1500 and I politely discuss many important things.

Remember that if the Mrs. and I disagreed at any point in the podcast, I was always in the right.

Mrs. 1500 note: Except for when he was 1000% wrong which was every single time.

Also, if I said anything crazy or didn’t make sense, there was beer involved.

And I”m Shop My Closet too

Screen Shot 2015-09-29 at 6.35.28 AMAt FinCon ’14, I met Michelle from Shop My Closet Project. A couple weeks ago, Michelle interviewed me. Show Michelle some love and check me out here too.

Thanks Michelle for having me! Since you’re my neighbor, I’ll be mad at you if we don’t meet before the end of this year. We did not talk nearly enough at FinCon!

Listened to the mad fientist. You guys made a lot of good financial decisions. We still haven’t bought a new car but really do love our neighborhood where we bought our town home. Property tax plus hoa is only 3500 and that includes our multiple parks and pool. Totally worth it.

Our neighbors are awesome but a few are just so terrible with money. All they care about is meeting their cash flow, not actual savings. We worry about the young couple. I kind of want to gift them a copy of your money or your life…

That podcast was so much fun to do. I wish I could do a weekly one!

Isn’t it crazy to watch how others behave with money? This fascinates me to no end…

    Hey Mr. and Mrs 1500,
I have listened to half of your interview with the Mad Fientist and will listen to the rest on another car ride. Nicely done. It’s even better than when I listened in person at FinCon.

Keep up the inspiration and the humor:)

Freedom!

My goal was to build a portfolio of $1,000,000 by February of 2017; 1500 days from the birth of this blog (January 1, 2013). And hey look, I’ve since retired!

Investments only (primary home excluded)
1/1/13 (The Start): $586,043
1/1/14 (1 Yr Later): $869,635
1/1/15 (2 Yrs Later): $987,351
1/1/16 (3 Yrs Later): $1,057,961
1/1/17 (4 Yrs Later): $1,257,128
1/1/18 (5 Yrs Later): $1,527,701
1/1/19 (6 Yrs Later): $1,549,440
1/1/20 (7 Yrs Later): $2,035,040*
1/1/21 (8 Yrs Later): $3,379,746**
1/1/22 (9 Yrs Later): $4,762,642
1/1/23 (10 Yrs Later): $3,112,821

2023: Investments only
1/1: $3,112,821

Overall
2023 investment gains: $0
Investment gains since 1/1/2013: $2,526,778
Net worth***: $3,342,821

* The big jump between 2019 and 2020 was partly because we bought another home, but kept the previous (much more expensive) one as a rental. We have since sold it.

** Tesla.

*** Includes our primary home equity in addition to our investment portfolio.

Finally, we still have about $290,000 in mortgage debt (which I love!). No regrets about the debts!
