How To Money Interview

October 12, 2021 by Mr. 1500 Days 1 Comment

I first met Joel Larsgaard on a hot and steamy night in New Orleans. I was at a blogger conference called FinCon and had rented a creepy old house in the Treme area with friends:One night, Joel stopped by and we all hung out late into the night.Joel and I are in very different places now. When I met him, Joel was a producer for Clark Howard. He has since left the show … [Read more...] about How To Money Interview

M.K. Williams On Mile High FI

August 19, 2021 by Mr. 1500 Days 1 Comment

This week on the Mile High FI podcast, Doug and I talked to M.K. Williams. I've bumped into M.K. many times at FI events and always enjoyed our conversations, so I really looked forward to this interview. MK is an author, speaker, and mother. I'm also happy to call her my friend. What stood out to me most in this interview is how well M.K. designed her life. Most of us … [Read more...] about M.K. Williams On Mile High FI

Mile High FI: Ask Us Anything

June 23, 2021 by Mr. 1500 Days 4 Comments

I'm not going to write a post about every podcast, but this one was the most fun one yet, so I'll blab about it just a little here. We had innocent intentions for this episode, but it eventually devolved into a discussion of asparagus pee. Doug and I had a load of fun recording it.Juvenile antics aside, perhaps the most fun part of blogging/podcasting is interacting with … [Read more...] about Mile High FI: Ask Us Anything

Who Are You Really?

May 27, 2021 by Mr. 1500 Days 5 Comments

For better or worse (mostly worse), external pressures tend to shape our personalities. This coercion comes from:Our careers: You need to impress Bob if you want the promotion! Our neighbors: Look at our new SUX 6000! You should get one too!Family: You sister (insert one: moved out, had a baby, got a new job, got straight A). When are you going to be more like her?Friends: … [Read more...] about Who Are You Really?

Freedom!

My goal was to build a portfolio of $1,000,000 by February of 2017; 1500 days from the birth of this blog (January 1, 2013). And hey look, I’ve since retired!

Overall
Gains since 1/1/2013: $5,883,464
Net worth***: $6,869,507

* The big jump between 2019 and 2020 was partly because we bought another home, but kept the previous (much more expensive) one as a rental and started counting it as an investment. We have since sold it.

** Tesla.

*** Includes our primary home equity in addition to our investment portfolio.

Finally, we still have about $290,000 in mortgage debt (which I love!). No regrets about the debts!
