Thursday Rant: The $260 Lunch Bag; Has Society gone Mad?!?

February 28, 2013 by Mr. 1500 Days 20 Comments

I took a miserable flight on Southwest recently. I fly all the time on SWA and have never forgotten to check in to the flight exactly 24 hours ahead of time. This time, I forgot. My cell phone was in a dead spot and I didn't get the alert. As a result, I got stuck in the dreaded middle seat between two very large and obnoxious people (do you really have to get drunk and pick … [Read more...] about Thursday Rant: The $260 Lunch Bag; Has Society gone Mad?!?

Thursday Rant: “Do caterpillars fart?”

February 21, 2013 by Mr. 1500 Days 3 Comments

You may think this blog is about money, but it's not. It's really about time. I don't want money to buy fancy clothes or cars or gold iPhone cases. I want money to buy time! Once I have enough dollars working for me, I'm free to do whatever I want with my life.I'm fascinated by how people spend their time. Some waste it watching crappy TV while others work their lives away. … [Read more...] about Thursday Rant: “Do caterpillars fart?”

Thursday Rant: No Nice Car, no Wife for You Mr. 1500!

February 7, 2013 by Mr. 1500 Days 8 Comments

Let's go back in time 12 years to the year 2001. I was at one of my first real jobs out of college. At work one morning, my boss announced that she had purchased a new, $40,000 german luxury car. She was clearly excited and thought that I should have one too:Boss: Mr. 1500, I LOVE my car; you should get one too! Me (trying to politely deflect): The car I have works just … [Read more...] about Thursday Rant: No Nice Car, no Wife for You Mr. 1500!

Thursday Rant: My neighbors are the most wasteful people ever

January 24, 2013 by Mr. 1500 Days 15 Comments

My family and I love to take walks in the evening. The run up to the holidays was an awesome time to be a walker. The kids loved looking at the neighbors' extravagant decorations.A couple days after Christmas, I took a walk on garbage day that greatly disturbed me. … [Read more...] about Thursday Rant: My neighbors are the most wasteful people ever

Thursday Rant: Hypocrites!

January 10, 2013 by Mr. 1500 Days 5 Comments

I've always liked Suze Orman. I read her columns (Costco and the local paper) and have heard her on the radio many times. She gives advice on how people should manage their financial lives and its always pretty good. So imagine my surprise when I saw this ridiculous commercial:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGZfhnpmBdMMy jaw dropped to the floor. Not only is she selling … [Read more...] about Thursday Rant: Hypocrites!

Freedom!

My goal was to build a portfolio of $1,000,000 by February of 2017; 1500 days from the birth of this blog (January 1, 2013). And hey look, I’ve since retired!

1/1/19 (6 Yrs Later): $1,549,440
1/1/20 (7 Yrs Later): $2,035,040*
1/1/21 (8 Yrs Later): $3,379,746**
1/1/22 (9 Yrs Later): $4,762,642

2023: Investments only

2/1: $3,582,368
3/1: $3,716,852
4/1: $3,861,599

Gains: $748,778

Overall
Gains since 1/1/2013: $3,275,556
Net worth***: $4,091,599

* The big jump between 2019 and 2020 was partly because we bought another home, but kept the previous (much more expensive) one as a rental. We have since sold it.

** Tesla.

*** Includes our primary home equity in addition to our investment portfolio.

Finally, we still have about $290,000 in mortgage debt (which I love!). No regrets about the debts!
